ROBLOX Update: New Shadows!

newshadowsfeat
Remember that physics update we talked about a while ago? Well, ROBLOX is following it up with a new update on player shadows.

The old shadow used "stencil shading" for a solid shadow that would work, but sometimes end up looking strange. This stood out especially after the addition of Dynamic Lighting to ROBLOX.

Players reported seeing their player shadows when a light was behind a wall. A light from a nearby house could somehow shine through the walls and give your player a shadow.

This update adds a new algorithm for creating shadows and gives players softer, more realistic shadows that stick to the rules of real life. (No more getting shadows from unknown light sources). Not only do the new shadows look better, they also act more realistic.

Gone are the days when you could experiment with hat stacks to create bizarre shadows. Now, all shadows will behave like normal -- without the glitchiness of the old system for shadows.

What do you guys think of the update? How will it affect you?

However, as the game grew in popularity, the folks at ROBLOX began seeing less and less of a reason to reward people for logging in. "The games are what will bring them," they thought.
