The Removal of Tix: A Look Back

ROBLOX removed their free currency "Tix" in 2016
Logging in every day to get free money, who wouldn't want that? ROBLOX used to award players 10 tickets, or "Tix" as they were abbreviated, for logging in every day to use to buy hats, clothing, and gear. However, as the game grew in popularity, the folks at ROBLOX began seeing less and less of a reason to reward people for logging in. "The games are what will bring them," they thought. Were they right?

It's been a year since ROBLOX made the fateful decision of removing their free currency for those who chose not to, for various reasons, to buy Robux with real money. At the time of removal, one of ROBLOX's promises was to, instead of making users buy hats and other items with tickets, create free items that wouldn't need to be bought with real money. However, at the time of this article (one year past the removal date), very few free items have been made available to users.

Instead of making free original items for its users, ROBLOX has been turning to third parties such as film companies to distribute commercial merchandise to children. Want a free hat? You'll have to take the [insert movie name] hat. Essentially, ROBLOX has teamed up with other companies to have free users wear advertisements around.

This is extremely worrying for all users, as it shows a lack of commitment by ROBLOX to stick by its promises and hold the players over the money. The lack of critical user response has not helped spur the company to stick with its promise either. ROBLOX watches all comments on its blog and removes those it deems are "not safe to show". Could they be removing complaints? Only time will tell.

Hotel Transylvania 2 - ROBLOX Event

This fall, ROBLOX is hosting an event sponsored by the new Hotel Transylvania 2 movie (if you haven't seen the first, it was ok). In this event, ROBLOX is giving away some cool new hats.

ROBLOX and 8-Bit Hats

ROBLOX has released many 8-Bit hats over the course of its "hat-making history", but recently it has gone a little overboard. 8-bit hats are a certain type of hat that ROBLOX has created that looks pixelated (made up of large pixels or unclear). However, that hats are actually composed of many small cubes (yes, the hats are in 3d). I was fine with the 8-bit Top Hat, Fedora, Sword, and even the Viking Helmet! 8-Bit Phoenix by ROBLOX Then, everything changed when the fire nation attacked they decided to release the 8-bit Phoenix and the 8-bit Sombrero.
